Supreme Court rules Alabama congressional district map goes against Voting Rights Act

The Supreme Court of the United States announced a ruling Thursday to affirm a lower court's decision which found Alabama's congressional voting district map was in violation of Section 2 of the Voting Rights Act. The decision in Allen v. Milligan, which surprised many people, was made with a 5-4 vote.

Section 2 of the Voting Rights Act prohibits voting practices that discriminate based on race and color.
