Hundreds of people gathered in downtown Hamilton to march through the streets to mark Red Dress Day.

The event takes place every year on May 5, and is also known as the National Day of Awareness for Missing and Murdered Indigenous Women and Girls and Two-Spirit People.

The event originated in 2010, when Métis artist Jamie Black initiated the Red Dress Project installation, in which she hung red dresses to represent the missing and murdered people.
